Topics include the distances and motions of stars, their origin, development and eventual disappearance, supernova, pulsars, black holes, galaxies, quasars, and the origin and evolution of the universe as a whole. The aim of the course is a broadly based understanding of the behaviour of the physical universe and an insight into the challenging questions to which modern astronomy is finding answers.
