Credit Weight: 0.5 Description: An examination of contemporary issues pertaining to sport and physical activity with a Canadian emphasis. Introductory topics include a differentiation of play, games and sport, socialization into, via and out of sport, sociological theories of sport and an historical perspective on sport. Emphasis is placed upon the complex intersection of various forms of social differentiation including: class, race, gender and education. The aim of this course is to promote critical thinking about sport as a cultural practice.
